Gobustan - how much in this word .... Sabit Djodjulu

The majestic "Land of ravines" stretches to the south of Baku in the territory of the Karadag and Absheron regions. Usually Gobustan is associated with us with a burning sun, rock paintings, rich fauna and of course with school excursions, when we breathlessly looked at the huge rocks, in places unusual in form, a miraculous monument created by nature itself. As well as petroglyphs, telling us about the culture and development of a person's life of a bygone era.

Age of petroglyphs varies from 12th century BC. up to the Middle Ages. In this majestic place of the born civilization they are kept in large numbers. For example, images of boats attracted the attention of the Norwegian archaeologist, traveler, author of numerous works of Tour Heyerdahl, who visited our country four times. Tour Heyerdahl noted the similarity of these boats with the ships of the ancient Vikings and put forward a sensational statement that the ancestors of the Norwegians were from the Caucasus and Azerbaijan. But the miracles of Gobustan do not end there.

"Singing Stones" Gobustan - Gavaldash! There are legends that they used to scare away wild animals, and also they were a place of meetings and all sorts of festive rites. When tapping, they make unusual sounds and make a picture of this unusual place even more fabulous ... And at the foot of the Boyukdash mountain in the territory of the reserve there is a stone slab with an inscription in Latin, left by the XII legion of the Roman Emperor Domitian the Lightning in the 1st century AD. The plate was discovered in the middle of the 20th century: "Imp Domitiano Caesare avg.Germanic L.Julius Maximus.Leg.XII Ful"

What in translation means: "The time of the Emperor Domitian Caesar Augustus of Germany, Lucius Julius Maximus, Centurion XII Legion of the Lightning" Continuing the tour of Gobustan draw attention to gravestones of interesting shapes and different periods, with different symbols. Some of them, especially those in Boyukdash, are identical to the tombstones of the "Huns Cemetery" in the Buzovna settlement of Baku. And the tombstones in Kichikdash are similar in their style to the tombstones of the village of Akhalsopeli in Georgia

But the most unusual and exciting soul is the ancient cemetery of babies. And of course Emshan is a grass (wormwood), which is rich in Gobustan. It is impossible to get around it and not pay attention. Its smell stirs up the blood, reminding us of our great past, the memory of which lies in each of us. Emshan in ancient times was considered especial. Our dear ancestors always wore a pinch of grass with their own in leather bags. On luck, going on a long journey .....I understand why the Descendant returned to his native Steppes ....

Gobustan is an integral part of our beautiful Azerbaijan! Countries whose history goes to the deepest antiquity!

"The country of the ravines-Gobustan

The great land filled with the sun

Excites your soul with Еmshan

And the stone will sing a song in a whirlwind dance"
